Follow the steps in our “Cleaning House Checklist. You must eliminate all, and I mean all, materials that could tempt you. Go down this checklist and check off each item as you complete it. Find a fellow Pure Warrior and inform them of your intent. Have them check your work.
Destroy any porn around your house, car, storage unit, office etc. That means everything! That means destroy, not disable, not put away, or otherwise cheat!
Move your computer into the busiest place in the house. Put it where you can’t sneak around on it.
Destroy any personal items that facilitate, support, remind or assist you in your addictive process. That means related credit cards, video rental cards, photos, business cards, email addresses, books etc… that have facilitated your behaviors. Check off all that apply below when destroyed or completed.
Magazines VCR Tapes Floppy disks CD ROM’s Printed Images of any kind Books Posters Sex Toys Software Files computer or otherwise Screensavers Backgrounds Calendars Clothes with graphic words or images Bumper stickers Car scent hangers with any graphic images Delete any websites, favorites, cache or stored sites, hotlinks etc… Clean out your computer of .jpegs, .mpegs, .avi’s and other .mov files or anything else related to your addictive behavior. Call your phone company and put a block on 900 numbers Cancel magazine subscriptions that feed your behavior—this probably means sports illustrated. Just ask them to delete the swimsuit issue. Inappropriate catalogs like Victoria’s Secret and others. Cancel Them! Eliminate cable or satellite channels that make you vulnerable Online subscriptions and email lists, chat rooms, alias names etc…
I would take any of the stuff you are destroying and throw it in your fireplace and burn it—if you can. Or, put it out in the trash in a large garbage bag. Have a little party with someone close, like the person you choose to be your Pure Warrior Partner.
Other things to think about:
If you have a roommate and he/she doesn’t want to comply. You may need to think about moving.
You need to fill the void left in your life with other things. I recommend studying this issue at length. Read up on sexual addiction and lust. I recommend the following books.
When Good Men Are Tempted, Bill Perkins Every Man’s Battle, Steve Arterburn Pure Desire, Ted Roberts Silent War, Henry Rogers New Man Magazine The Bible--NIV and the new version called The Message
