This process is designed for the pointman. Its purpose is to protect the sanctity and effectiveness of the Pure Warrior-Freedom Group. The Pointman will rotate through various men in the group but will generally have a six month to one year term
Initial Call/Interview—The pointman takes the initial phone call or referral from a pastor or counselor. He sets up an interview with the candidate. The purpose of the interview is to:
get a preliminary understanding of the level of the man’s addiction,
ascertain his motivation for wanting to join the group,
explain to the candidate the intake process and the basics of the recovery
rocess, especially the Freedom Principles—
if the candidate wants to move to the next step they move to #2
(The important issue here is the motivation of the candidate to join the group. Appeasement of a court order, pressure from spouse or anyone else is unacceptable. A sincere desire to recover, at any cost is critical. Ascertain this carefully and without telegraphing this concern. We want to avoid wasting time on intake and group assimilation with guys that won’t stay with it.)
Passion for Purity Video—The candidate is then asked to watch the “Passion for Purity” video. This gives the candidate an orientation to the use of terms, assumption used in recovery and a good baseline of understanding on the issue. This can be done by having him go to your sponsor church and watch the video. (approximately 1.75 hours)
Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST)—The candidate needs to take the SAST on the internet. The results are to be printed out and brought to the first meeting. The Pointman reviews the results with the candidate. These results can be used later in the recovery process. The SAST can be taken by visiting www.purewarrior.org and clicking to the “Resources for Men” link.
Attend Group Meeting—At this first meeting the candidate will listen. Just prior to the meeting, the pointman will have a private and direct conversation with the candidate about confidentiality and attains the candidate’s commitment to it for this first meeting. The rest of the men may or may not give a two minute testimony each. The purpose of having the candidate attend this meeting is to ensure that he is comfortable with the process.
Sign Covenant Agreement—If the candidate wishes to join the group, the candidate takes the covenant letter and agreement home to discuss with his spouse and family. The letter and agreement need to be read by both the spouse and candidate with both signing the agreement. The agreement is returned to the pointman at the next meeting.
